DESIGN SPOTLIGHT: RIO GRANDE PARK

Believe it or not I love the architecture of the new bathroom facilities at Rio Grande Park. In 2012, the Hurst Theatre and lobby were renovated, alongside the gardens and ponds, designed by the City of Aspen Parks Department. More recently, landscape renovations around the river and theater were completed, including the eco-friendly, compostable bathrooms.

They’ve done a great job of naturally incorporating the bathroom building into the surroundings. The rocks stacked inside the metal cage is the perfect, more organic way to build a wall in this gorgeous outdoor setting.

Is there an unexpected piece of architecture you find inspiring?
